the american mattress

covered in corner light

once skirted ground

and how is it

that everything is a beach

an infrastructure

in the night

where flowers bloom

these libidinal clouds

of seaweed abiding

a shuffle in the closed curtain

the sound of a submarine

ugly sunlight

generates portrait

after portrait

and always after itself

this coincidental geography

solar flares, slag heaps, glacial activity

benches, benches, benches

dogs halted in doorways

satisfied for small change

the water breaks the water's surface
